Trump may not need to intervene directly in the American film industry market for conservative films to be released. What is still a niche today becomes a growing market. Long dominated by progressive values, Hollywood sees an ideological counter-current emerging which continues to gain ground, that of a cinema with a reading of history more in line with the expectations of a rural, Christian and patriotic America.
Released last year – and unfairly forgotten the rooms in France – Reaganthe biopic devoted to the 40th president, was a real success in the United States, garnering $ 30 million at the American box office against “only” 15 for The Apprenticethe film devoted to Donald Trump’s youth, however praised by criticism. Actor Dennis Quaid (star of Great Balls of Fire! and The Big Easy In the 1980s) is even a rarity in Hollywood since he decided to openly support Trump’s candidacy last year.
Other success: Sound of Freedoman independent film released in 2023, which has become a social phenomenon in the United States. Worn by Jim Caviezel (seen in The passion of Christ) and directed by Alejandro Monteverde, he traces the true story of Tim Ballard, former federal agent converted in the fight against child trafficking. Distributed by Angel Studios, an independent company, the film has accumulated more than $ 180 million in box office recipes, more than many superproductions.
In the same vein, Kevin Sorbo, revealed in the 1990s thanks to the series Herculeshas become one of the most active faces of this cinema. With feature films like God’s not deadhe defends Christian values, the antipodes of what is generally promoted by Hollywood productions. He also founded the Sorbos studios intended to produce “Quality entertainment, focused on family values”.
Documentaries grab this wave
Finally, The Daily Wire, a conservative media led by Ben Shapiro, launched its own branch of production of films and series. With Run Hide Fight, a thriller on an armed attack in a high school, the platform intends to offer an alternative to WOKE stories.
Even the documentaries seize this wave. Am i racist ?, Who calls into question the dominant speeches on race and discrimination, was a success last year in the United States despite criticism that has proven to be frankly negative. The film then ranked among the first five at the box office, becoming the most profitable documentary of 2024.
