New threat from Donald Trump. The American president announced this Thursday that Washington would “hit very hard tonight” Iran. He also said he wanted to take control of several Iranian strategic oil infrastructures.
“In the near future, we will seize Kharg Island and other strategic oil infrastructure, and take full control of their oil and gas markets, as we did with Venezuela, which is extremely profitable for both Venezuela and the United States.”he wrote on his Truth Social network.
Earlier this Thursday, the US military announced that it had neutralized a third tanker accused of violating the blockade of Iranian ports in a week. A ceasefire between the two countries is however in force, but constantly violated. Regional Command (Centcom) indicated on X: “US forces detained an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman at 11:20 p.m. on June 10, after the vessel violated the blockade on Iran by attempting to transport Iranian oil. » This is the ninth oil tanker to be targeted by Washington since the start of the blockade.
Iran closes Strait of Hormuz ‘until further notice’
Hostilities have increased in intensity in recent days in the Middle East. Faced with new American strikes, the Iranian maritime authority announced the total closure of the Strait of Hormuz. “Due to the tensions generated by the aggression of American forces in the region (…), the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until further notice”said this Thursday the Persian Gulf Straits Authority (PGSA), the body responsible for managing this strategic passage.
On Wednesday, the Revolutionary Guards said they had targeted American military installations in the Middle East to retaliate against American strikes carried out the day before against several Iranian sites located near the Strait of Hormuz. A “drone attack” was thus launched “against the Fifth Fleet” American stationed in Bahrain and another led against the Azraq air base, in Jordan.
