Ukraine: China loads Macron after comparison with Taiwan

Emmanuel Macron attracts the wrath of Beijing. The President of the French Republic spoke at the opening of the defense and security forum Shangri-la Dialogue in Singapore on Friday evening. He did not hesitate to make a comparison between the invasion of Taiwan by China and the war in Ukraine. “If we consider that Russia can be authorized to seize a part of the territory of Ukraine without restriction, without constraint, without reaction of the world order, what will we say about what could happen in Taiwan? »» He wondered.

The Head of State also judged that “If China does not want NATO to be involved in Southeast Asia or Asia, it must clearly prevent North Korea from being involved on European soil”. Emmanuel Macron refers to the deployment of North Korean soldiers in Ukraine.

An “unacceptable” parallel

The release of Emmanuel Macron made Beijing react. The China Embassy in Singapore considered that “Compare Taiwan’s question to the Ukrainian problem is unacceptable”: “the two are different, and in no case comparable. »» Chinese diplomacy recalled in a statement released on social networks that “Taiwan’s question is a subject strictly internal to China”ensuring that there is only one “Only China in the world” and that “Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory”.

Since the 1949 Revolution, Taiwan is no longer under the control of Beijing who seeks to regain possession of it by maneuvers around the island. On Saturday, the American defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, also accused Beijing of preparing for a military offensive in Asia-Pacific and “Training every day” with the aim of invading Taiwan.
