On February 28, after the announcement of new elections next May, Calin Georgescu tried to submit a new candidacy. He was arrested in the street and led to the court. He is finally criticized for sympathies for iron care, fascist political party and anti-Semitic of the war, which is illegal under the Romanian right.
The toxic heritage of socialism
Last Sunday, he was definitively excluded from any candidacy due to “His previous actions and declarations contrary to the values required by the presidential function”. It is now George Simion, head of the Aur party, who will be the candidate of the nationalist forces in the presidential election in place of Georgescu. And if Simion is not accepted by the Constitutional Court, Anamaria Gavrila, head of the pot, will constitute the withdrawal solution.
However, when we examine the past of Calin Georgescu, unknown before the election, the portrait is quite far from the image of a dangerous seditious. Georgescu belongs more to the galaxy which today persecutes it than to the ghosts of Corneliu Codreanu and Romanian fascism. “The Soros network in Romania will be definitively prohibited if I am elected because he has caused a lot of wrong to my country, to my people”he said in an interview with Mario Nawfal, a close collaborator of Elon Musk.
The Soros network, Georgescu knew it well: he “ is linked to civil servants and the police. I am firmly committed to investigating and denouncing all those responsible, both in Romania and in the United States, for the illegal management of these USAID and the Soros network ”he explained at the microphone of Alex Jones, a American conspiratorial blogger close to Trump.
After the fall of communism, environmental issues become a fertile land for international funding. The country is then ravaged by the toxic heritage of “productivist socialism” dear to dictator Nicolae Ceausecu. The “carpatian genius” had, we remember, a woman, Elena, who led a meteoric career as a macromolecular chemistry researcher with a lot of bogus thesis and securities of complacency. All of this left traces in the landscape. Ecology was a big word in the little homeland of workers.
As a result, after 1989, five large industrial zones were seriously polluted and 80 % of rivers have contaminated water. Intensive agriculture has also caused significant soil erosion. These are the conclusions of a 1991 report from the International Union for Nature Conservation. Consequently, the country receives significant external support, involving public authorities and civil society.
Soros partner
In the early 1990s, two environmental political parties appeared, as well as a large number of NGOs. Calin Georgescu built his career by directing one of them, Tineretul Ecologist Din România (TER). After being the youth branch of an ecological party in 1992, the TER became a “Independent NGO”which allows him to access public and international funding. At that time, Georgescu was also adviser to the Minister of the Environment, Marcian Bleahu. It is therefore fully part of the system it castigates today, while being active in NGOs benefiting from foreign funds. TER then organizes various actions: educational campaigns, symposiums, environmental surveillance and reporting of reports to the authorities.
This is how he establishes partnerships with the Soros Foundation. In 1995, the daily Jurnal Bihorean reported that the TER of Calin Georgescu and the Soros Foundation for an “open society” organized together the “Ecological Education Week” in four Oradea high schools. This partnership was organized as part of Earth Day. We are far from the fascists of the iron guard.
Therefore, one can wonder: why does her candidacy arouse such mistrust to the point that we want to make it impossible at all costs? First, because Calin Georgescu was very likely to win last year and that he had swept out the outgoing candidate. Then, and this is perhaps the main point, Calin Georgescu has been hostile since the departure in war in Ukraine and wishes peace. These statements immediately earned him the qualifier of “pro-Russian” which, added to that of “extreme right”, is worth, in the eyes of Brussels, the Atlantic camp and the Romanian authorities, disqualification.
NATO treats its flank is
The true reason for the relentlessness that Calin Georgescu is the subject is much more commonplace. If it is dismissed from the presidential election, it is because Romania is a pillar of the oriental side of NATO. It hosts multinational military units, including 1,500 French people, as well as a defense system against ballistic missiles located on the basis of Deveselu.
The country also has a border of more than 650 kilometers with Ukraine, and its eastern coast, on the Black Sea, is less than 250 kilometers from the Crimean Peninsula, controlled by Russia since 2014. It cannot in any case join the club of Hungary and Slovakia, known for their hostility to war. NATO would then lose almost all its southern flank. In these times of new cold war, it is well worth sitting on its principles by fueling an election, even if it means reconnecting with methods typical of the era of the Ceausescu spouses.
