Morocco: Algeria’s resentment is invited … on women’s football fields

Launched for five days, the African Cup of Nations female in Morocco is already marred by a controversy. At the heart of this controversy: Algeria and the host country. The diplomatic rivalry between the two countries – which have very bad relations related to Western Sahara, whose sovereignty is claimed by Morocco and by the separatists of the Polisario Front, supported by Algeria – found its echo in the sports world, reports The Parisian.

During a press conference by Moroccan coach, Farid Benstiti, several Moroccan media noticed the disappearance of the “Royal Air Maroc” logo, however sponsor of the competition, on the advertising panels present at the back of the desk. Through an assembly, it was replaced by the logo of “” Total energies »»another partner brand.

And this is not an isolated case. Because on social networks, the Algerian Federation also modified the emblem of the tournament. She removed the mention “Morocco 24” from several visuals, such as the one accompanying the list of players selected for the CAN.

Internet users also accused Algeria of having hidden, using an adhesive tape, the logo of the competition present on the seats of the replacement players, during the first match of Algeria against Botswana.
