Michel Onfray: The lesson of Alaska or the feast of the wild beasts

For those who have not yet understood, the war between Russia and Ukraine is a war between Russia and the United States, this is the lesson coming from Alaska, the forty-ninth American state which, when the Bering Strait is frozen, has a hard border with Russia. We couldn’t find a more symbolic place for a meeting that will decide… the future of Ukraine.

The images bear witness: Trump rolled out the red carpet for his Russian counterpart, received as a power equal to the American giant, which the nuclear warheads on either side of the Northwest Passage make possible. The handshake between these two madmen on whom the future of the world depends, with the addition of Putin’s hand being patted by the big fat hand of Trump, the other of which was already clutching the Russian paw, was an ethological sign: two great beasts were coming together, two great reptiles, two equally ill people, and the future of humanity depended on the moods of these two, more accomplices than enemies.

Meanwhile, Zelensky was playing dominoes, Macron was jet-skiing in Brégançon, Ursula von der Leyen was sunbathing fully clothed on the beaches of Brussels and the other European leaders were doing word search by the pool.

Carpet merchants

At the same time, as the Other would say, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin looked at the world map and, as in Yalta, negotiated like carpet merchants for pieces of Ukraine to share, probably with a geological map indicating the interests of the Ukrainian subsoil.

Trump and Putin, as in Yalta, negotiated like carpet merchants for parts of Ukraine

Putin thinks that by bombing Ukraine, he will make the country Russophile! It is the madness of a mentally ill person to want to conquer hearts by destroying bodies. Russian bombings target cultural places in Ukraine which constitute places of identity: museums, theaters, schools, universities, libraries, heritage buildings. If all of these were Russian, what is the point of destroying them, if not because Ukrainian identity exists and Putin wants to eradicate it in order to remove evidence that Ukraine is not Russian.

On the continuous news channels, the commentators, waiting for more than a plane approaching, a plane landing, a plane landing, a plane taxiing, a plane stopped, explained that this meeting was already a success: the proof, the two crazy people met and we don’t meet to acknowledge that we don’t get along.

Yet this was the case: Putin, who was receiving the American anointing, while he is under an international arrest warrant, came to tell Trump that the master of the game was him and no one else. The Donald was able to say during his campaign that once elected, he would resolve the problem in twenty-four hours and that he would then go and collect his Nobel Peace Prize, Putin told him with his snake smile: “Not until I have decided and in the forms I have chosen. »

The next day, getting off his jet-ski, Macron went out of his way to come to Washington with his domino-playing friends, tanners from Brussels and word search enthusiasts. For what? Being humiliated, probably Emmanuel Macron’s favorite pastime; which would not be very serious if it were not at the same time humiliating France.
