Show of strength

Since Donald Trump’s return to the White House on January 20, Tehran has been intensifying his power demonstrations, multiplying major military exercises and presenting new equipment, as well as underground military bases deemed to be impregnable. On Sunday, Iran revealed a new ballistic missile with a claimed range of 1,700 kilometers. The day before, the country had presented a cruise missile, capable of traveling 1,000 kilometers and with anti -change capacities.

During the inauguration ceremony, the chief of the revolution guards, General Hossein Salami, said that Iran was not trying to intimidate anyone and “Will not engage in any war with the governments we recognize. »» However, the country “Will not bend before the threat of any power.”

As usual, Tehran oscillates between provocations and attempts at dialogues. If Iran sends multiple signals to Western countries, especially in the United States, to start negotiations on its nuclear program, no earlier than this morning, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was still threatening Washington. “If they attack the security of our nation, we will take it to their security without hesitation”he said at a meeting with army commanders.

For its part, the United States announced financial sanctions on Thursday, the first since the arrival of the new government, with regard to a “International network” Accused of delivering Iranian oil to China to finance the military activities of Tehran.
