The American president then toughened his tone towards the Europeans: “Oh, immigration…what you do to yourself, you kill yourself. But we will work with them and we are doing it. » A new charge which is part of a recurring criticism of Donald Trump, who regularly accuses European countries of being too lax in the management of migratory flows.
Last December, the publication of the new American national security strategy had already provoked strong reactions in Europe. The 33-page document denounced in particular the “economic decline” and the“civilizational erasure” of the continent. Donald Trump subsequently increased attacks against European leaders, judging that “Europe doesn’t know what to do” facing immigration.
In an interview with Politico, he notably estimated that certain European countries “will no longer be viable countries”before reproaching their leaders for wanting to stay “politically correct” rather than sending migrants back. The White House had also denounced migration policies deemed ineffective, in a document calling for “Europe remains European” and regains more confidence in herself.
