Donald Trump warns against the “establishment of Sharia law” in London

Before the United Nations General Assembly, Donald Trump increased his attacks this Tuesday against international institutions and European leaders, particularly targeting the councilor of the British capital Sadiq Khan. “I look at London where you have a terrible mayor, a terrible mayor, really terrible. And the city has changed so much. Now they want to establish Sharia law”launched the American president.

This stunt is part of a broader diatribe against European migration policies. “Your countries are going straight to hell”insisted the tenant of the White House, judging that the experience of “open borders” was a failure. A few minutes earlier, he also accused the UN “to encourage the invasion” from Western countries by financing the reception of migrants.

A recurring target

Labor Sadiq Khan, elected head of London in 2016, has long been in Donald Trump’s sights. The tenant of the White House has attacked him on multiple occasions for his management of security in the British capital and his positions in favor of welcoming migrants. During his visit to the United Kingdom, the Republican leader did not hesitate to make it known that he “didn’t want to” of the Mayor of London at the State Banquet hosted by the King at Windsor Castle.

The remarks he made in New York on Tuesday, however, constitute a rhetorical escalation. To the great pleasure of British identity activist Tommy Robinson, who welcomed the intervention of the American president on “new laws on “Islamophobia” which prohibit any criticism” by Keir Starmer.

Tommy Robinson refers to the work undertaken by the Labor government around a possible legal definition of“Islamophobia”. Under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, a working group led by former Conservative Attorney General Dominic Grieve is working on recommendations to combat anti-Muslim hatred.
