https://www.lejdd.fr/Societe/laurence-trochu-leurope-doit-oeuvrer-a-la-… new controversy around the use of European funds. In a message broadcast on “transgender ideology” and to promote “legislative changes” at the level of the European Union. In her publication, the elected official denounces more widely the use of these public funds, considering “immoral for an institution to divert French and European money to finance a lobby aimed at influencing elected officials.”

The project concerned, entitled TGEU OG 2026is supported by the European network Transgender Europe (TGEU), an organization committed to defending the rights of transgender people. According to the presentation documents, it is part of the priorities of the EU and its strategy for LGBT equality. The program aims to structure and strengthen the associative network, develop advocacy actions and increase the visibility of transgender issues at European level. It notably displays the objective of “contribute to a more inclusive Europe”.

A controversy already started at the beginning of February

Several areas of work are highlighted: improving access to legal gender recognition in Member States, combating discrimination in the areas of health and employment, defending the rights of transgender asylum seekers and preventing hate speech and disinformation. The project also includes training activities intended for activists in order to structure and strengthen the associative network.

This new position is part of an older debate on European funding linked to gender issues. On February 10, Laurence Trochu had already broadcast a video in which she affirmed that the European Union would have financed “dozens of projects” on these themes, for a total amount estimated at around 8 million euros.

The elected official cited several research programs that she considered revealing an ideological orientation of European funding, including a study devoted to the effects of gender-affirming hormonal treatments on the psychosocial functioning and social relationships of the people concerned, financed to the tune of approximately 1.5 million euros between 2023 and 2027.
